BATHROOM FAUCETS

Information current as of

You can buy bathroom faucets as a single unit or split with seperate handles for hot and cold. They come in just as many styles as kitchen faucets but generally cost a little less, have fewer features (usually) and are smaller in size to fit the smaller sink base.

Your sink will have need to have the correct number of holes for the faucet to be inserted properly. The do it yourselfer could drill additional holes if necessary but it's just easier if they already exist.

Most people pay much attention to the design of a bathroom faucet, but it can play an important role in the decor of your room.

The most popular colors are:

  • white
  • chrome
  • silver
  • gold
  • brass

The most popular brands are:

  • Kohler
  • Moen
  • Delta

Popular categories of bathroom faucets:

  • 4" center set
  • 4" Minispread
  • 8" widespread
  • single hole
  • Vessel Filler

Of course there are many variations on those themes but that's the majority of what you'll find in typical home improvement stores.

If you have young children you can get temperature controllers to prevent scalding of little fingers. Most people set their water heaters to 120F or less to help with that also.

Another consideration is whether you want a lever handle or turning knobs. In most public restrooms you'll now see the lever handle as they are easier for the handicapped to use. Most homes still have the double turning knobs.

Bathroom faucets cover more than just the sink. You'll also have to contend with the shower and bathtub. These also have a variety of options available. My favorite shower faucet is the one with the extendable handle.

A single hole faucet consists of a one piece fixture with a handle and spout. The four inch centered faucet can be either a one piece unit or a combination of the spout and a two handled faucet on the same body.

You can also look into getting a wall mounted faucet. If you choose a wall mounted faucet, you will need additional equipment for the valve and drain to be installed.

In addition to knowing what faucet you would like and what faucet your sink will accommodate, you must also determine the correct spout length for your sink. The faucet should have a long reach out into your sink, tub or whirlpool. Bathtub faucets should be easily reached from outside the shower or bath.
